What an interesting idea! I might use the same technique and make a magazine holder.

The simple photo tutorial shows the use of a band saw, but with a little patience and a sharp pair of scissors you could cut each piece individually. And then have your scissors sharpened before storing them in your newly fashioned scissor holder.
